Okaloosa CI Release Paths
Okaloosa Correctional Institution is operated by the Florida Department of Corrections. Its record path is statewide. A person can leave the complex through discharge from prison, release onto FDC community supervision, a community-release placement, or transfer within FDC. Only the first two clearly mark a departure from prison confinement, and supervision can continue after either qualifying release. A facility change within FDC is not a release from state custody.
The completed public event appears in FDC’s Inmate Release Information Search under the exact label Release Date. A person still in prison may have a Current Release Date on the current-inmate detail. Florida law describes the gain-time projection as a tentative release date. Neither term promises a completed departure. After the release record shows a past date, search Supervised Population. Active parole, conditional release, probation, or community control means confinement ended while a state sanction remains.
Note: “Current Release Date” is a projection, while “Release Date” documents the completed FDC custody event.
Confirm an Okaloosa CI Release
Open the FDC Offender Search menu and choose the database that matches the question. Current Inmate answers where a person remains confined and displays the current projected date. Inmate Release covers people released or scheduled for release and updates nightly. Supervised Population answers whether FDC supervision follows. The Absconder search is for a person unavailable for supervision, not proof of a new jail release.
- Use the six-character DC number when available; otherwise search exact names and aliases.
- Check Current Inmate to confirm present placement and the Current Release Date label.
- Open Inmate Release and compare the DC number, photograph, identity, cases, and Release Date.
- Search Supervised Population for status, location, type, and scheduled termination.
- Request the FDC discharge record when the public result does not answer the question.
The Okaloosa County release search overview explains when a county, federal, immigration, or court record must be used instead. FDC does not cover someone whose only sanction was the county jail or county probation. Likewise, the Okaloosa jail locator cannot confirm a state-prison discharge. The last actual custodian determines the correct source.
The FDC Inmate Release search shows the dedicated form and release-record route.
The separate release form helps prevent a current-inmate search from being treated as a completed Okaloosa CI release record.
Okaloosa CI Release Fields
An FDC released detail can preserve more than one date. Match the result by DC number and identity before drawing a conclusion. The record may show a photograph, physical description, custody details, aliases and marks, stated residence or release context, and current or prior prison-sentence history. Sentence rows can include the offense, sentence date, county, case, and term. The image is an FDC offender photograph, not necessarily the booking image from an earlier Okaloosa County Jail arrest.
| FDC field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| DC number | Primary identifier across FDC databases. |
| Current Release Date | Projected date on a current prisoner’s detail. |
| Release Date | Completed or listed release event in the release system. |
| Release context | Facility or stated residence details associated with the event. |
| Supervision Begin Date | When the separate community-supervision record begins. |
| Scheduled Termination Date | Projected end of supervision, not prison-release time. |
FDC says the release search covers people who have been released or are scheduled for release and is updated nightly. A scheduled record must still be treated as prospective. An actual gate event can be affected by an amended court order, detainer, transfer, or calculation change. For durable documentation, ask FDC for the release or discharge record, date and type, facility, sentence or gain-time computation, supervision information, and available offender photograph.
Note: An FDC photograph identifies the state offender record, not an earlier Okaloosa County Jail booking image.
Okaloosa CI Projected Release
Florida section 944.275 calls the gain-time projection the tentative release date. FDC first establishes the maximum sentence expiration after lawful jail credit, then applies the governing gain-time rules. Granting or restoring gain time may move the projection earlier. Forfeiture can move it later, but not beyond maximum expiration. Court changes, corrected credit, concurrent or consecutive cases, mandatory minimums, disciplinary action, and program decisions can also alter the display.
For offenses on or after October 1, 1995, FDC may award up to ten days per month of incentive gain time, but the statute generally prevents gain time from releasing a prisoner before service of 85 percent of the sentence imposed. Lawful credit for time physically incarcerated counts toward that floor. The rule does not promise release at 85 percent. Awards may be withheld or lost, and mandatory terms or other provisions can require more time. Life sentences remain life absent clemency or pardon.
The FDC Current Inmate search is the official place to locate the displayed Current Release Date.
That label should be reported as a projection until the release database records the completed event.
Okaloosa CI Release Records
FDC’s public-record channel is the correct fallback for a state prisoner. Identify the person by name, aliases, DC number, and date of birth only as needed. Ask for existing records rather than a custom answer: release or discharge date and type, release facility, sentence and gain-time computation, supervision dates, and an available offender image. FDC reviews requests under Florida public-record law and section 945.10, redacts exempt content, and may estimate costs. It does not have to create a record that it does not keep.

For release calculation questions, the FDC records route identifies the Bureau of Admission and Release contact at 850-488-9167 and dc.release@fdc.myflorida.com, plus Classification and Central Records at 850-488-9859. These statewide offices answer a different question from the Okaloosa County Risk Management custodian, which handles county jail records.
Okaloosa CI Facility Details
The complex is at 3189 Colonel Greg Malloy Road, Crestview, Florida 32539. It includes Okaloosa Correctional Institution and the affiliated Okaloosa Work Camp. Use the current FDC institution page for current phone and visitation details rather than relying on the older facility audit. The institution page is an operating-facility source, while the offender databases establish an individual’s custody or release record.
The official listing confirms FDC operation and the relationship between the main institution and work camp.
Okaloosa CI should never be described as the Okaloosa County Jail. The state complex holds sentenced prisoners under FDC authority. County Corrections holds people in the local jail and produces the county booking and release sheet. Someone can pass from county custody into FDC, producing two separate events: a county transfer and, much later, a state-prison release. Preserve both dates when reconstructing that sequence.
Okaloosa CI Release Supervision
A past FDC Release Date does not show whether all state obligations ended. The Supervised Population detail can list Supervision Begin Date, Current Location, Current Status, Supervision Type, Scheduled Termination Date, verified address, and supervision history. Those are community-supervision fields. They must not be substituted for the date the person left Okaloosa CI. A person may be on parole, conditional release, probation, or community control after prison.
Okaloosa County is served by FDC Circuit 1 offices in Crestview and Fort Walton Beach. The Florida Commission on Offender Review handles parole and other specified release decisions, but its voting schedules and dated agendas are not final-result databases. An agenda proves only that a matter was scheduled. Confirm a final action through the FCOR order or case file, then compare the FDC release and supervision records. A presumptive or effective date can change and is not the physical departure record.
Note: Scheduled Termination Date concerns supervision and must not replace the prison’s completed Release Date.
Okaloosa CI Transfer Limits
Movement from Okaloosa CI to another FDC institution or community-release setting does not necessarily end FDC custody. Search the current record for the new placement. A detainer may also change the destination when the prison term ends. If ICE or another agency receives the person, that handoff begins a new agency-specific record. The ICE locator has limited current and recent-release coverage and does not serve as a permanent state-prison discharge archive.
The reverse sequence matters too. The Okaloosa County Corrections record may say “transfer to state prison,” which closes the local booking but does not establish release from Okaloosa CI. Use the county sheet for the transfer date, the FDC current record for admission and placement, and the FDC release detail for the later completed state event. This layered approach prevents one facility’s departure label from being stretched beyond the custody it actually describes.
Okaloosa Release ICE Handoffs
Okaloosa County’s local jail statistics distinguish transfer to ICE from community release. That county finding does not establish a routine transfer practice at Okaloosa CI. It does show why every custodian’s departure must be read within its own system. No active ICE detention center was verified in Okaloosa County, and no current ICE contract for the county jail was established.
When a record actually names an ICE handoff, use ICE’s current guidance and agency locator. Recent-release visibility is limited to sixty days and is subject to exclusions and lag. A no-result is inconclusive. Likewise, an ICE release speaks only to immigration custody. It does not rewrite the earlier FDC or Okaloosa County custody dates.
